Beauty is only skin deep
May 27th, 2012
While the quality of workmanship and design aesthetics are good--even excellent--the pair I received had a critical flaw. It wasn't apparent when testing for fit with a few steps indoors, however, halfway through my first outdoor errand I developed blisters. Having thrust myself into this painful predicament via foot, walking was also my only means of escape. The return was slow and agonizing. Ahem. I've observed that what appears to happen is that during a step when the heel of the foot first contacts ground, the sides of the shoe bulge out around the rear, folding the back heel part of the shoe inwards. The back edge of the shoe then catches and rubs the ankle with each down step. Perhaps it is just an odd clash between these shoes and my feet, however, I can only go from my experience of not having any other shoes do this to me. Lacing the shoe up tightly seems to slightly reduce the movement. Ultimately, I don't think I'll be able to make them work. It's a fairly pricey shoe (at least it's pricey for a shoe that I can't even wear) now ineligible for return since I wore them outside, marking the tred. Even worse yet is the small dark red stain on the tan leather. In the end the beauty was only skin deep. Literally, skin deep. Before outdoor use, double check to make sure that there are no indications that the shoe will be rubbing your foot.
