Set Piece – a situation such as a “Free Kick” or throw in that puts the ball back into play after a break in play due to a penalty, an out of bounds, etc., a key part of the soccer game
Short Corner –a short pass on the “Corner Kick” often used by less skilled passers or in attempt to trick defenders expecting a longer pass
Sidelines – the boundary marking the edges of the legal playing field
Silverware – slang term for trophies
Sitter – an almost sure goal-scoring opportunity
Soccer-specific Stadium – an arena built primarily for playing soccer
Stanchion – diagonal or horizontal “Goalpost” extensions supporting the goal’s net
Stramash – a situation in which several players are gathered near the goal fighting to score or defend the goal, also called a “Goal-Mouth Scramble”
Striking-Partnership – a collective term for a team’s two “Strikers”
Substitute – a player replacing another on the field
Sudden death – a tiebreaking game mode following the completion of regulation play; the first team to score wins the game
