Glory Hunter – an insult directed at a fan of a successful team, accusing him or her of supporting the team based only on its success and/or popularity

Goal – either successfully putting a ball into the box on the opponent’s side of the field (worth one point), or the box itself

Goal Difference – the number of goals a club has scored minus the number of goals the club’s opponents have scored against it

Goal of the Season – an award given by the British Broadcasting Corporation to honor the most impressive goal scored during the season

Goal Poacher – a “Forward” known for his or her ability for scoring within the “Penalty Box”

Goalframe – two vertical posts and a cross bar supporting a net; the structure inside which all goals are scored

Goalkeeper – the last defender between the offense and the “Goalframe”; the goalkeeper or “goalie” is the only player on the soccer field allowed to touch the ball with his or her hands 

Goal Line – the boundary lines marking the short ends of the rectangular playable field

Golden Boot – the nickname for an award given to the leading scorer in a league

Golden Generation – any group of extremely talented players who lead their club to a new level of success

The Grecque (Greek) – a celebratory dance performed by the audience at a soccer game in which the fans of a club lock arms and turn their backs to the field

Group of Sleep – the least interesting grouping of teams in the stages of an international tournament

Group of Death – the most unpredictable grouping in the early stages of an international tournament, the grouping in which any team could conceivably win

Guard of Honour – applauding the opposing team as they take the field, an act of respect generally reserved for the champions of the division

Hat Trick – three goals scored in the same game by the same player; variations include a “flawless hat trick” – scoring three goals in the same period, and a “perfect hat trick” – scoring three goals in a single game, one with each foot, and one with the head
