Glossary of Shoe Terms - Waffle Outsole - Zoom Air

Waffle Outsole A Nike designed non slip outsole known for its excellent traction. The outsole pattern resembles a waffle. 
Walking shoes A walking shoe is a type of athletic shoe made specifically for walking.
Walking Strike Path A New Balance outsole designed to stabilize the foot during the movement of a person's individual walking style which improves their comfort.
Waterproof Waterproof shoes are meant to keep one's feet dry even in the wettest of conditions. 
Water shoes Shoes made with a thick rubber sole and a meshed upper used specifically for water sports. Water shoes are meant to protect one's feet from sharp rocks and provide traction on slippery surfaces. 
Wedges A type of shoe with a sloping heel made of rubber, canvas or wood. The wedge heel usually runs from the back of the shoe to the middle and has a somewhat triangular shape. 
Welt A piece of leather sewn between the insole and outsole meant to increase the durability of the shoe. 
Wet Grip Rubber An Asics non-slip outsole designed to increase traction especially on a wet surface. 
Width Refers to the measurement of a shoe or foot across the widest part of the foot. Width is usually denoted in letters such as AAA, B, C,  or AA.
Wing tip A design on the toe cap of men's dress shoes inspired by a bird's wings. 
Zoom Air An inflated but lighter and less bulky version of other Nike Air cushioning inserts.  Zoom Air is made up of two layers of nylon fabric making for stable and high responsive cushioning.
