| IGS | The Asics Impact Guidance System is a technical footwear design that enhances the wearers natural walking gait and allows the foot to move exactly as it normally would. |
| Imitation Leather | Any synthetic material made to look like leather. |
| Inseam | The hidden seam in a welted shoe which holds together the welt, upper, insole and lining. |
| Insole | A lining that runs the entire length of the shoe separating the foot from the shoe. An insole is usually removable. |
| Instep | The center, upper section of the foot between the toes and ankle. |
| Interlocking PU/Phylon midsole | A Nike dual material midsole that contains firm polyurethane in the heel for stability and phylon from the midfoot to the toe for cushioning. |
| Internal MetGuard | A flexible guard meant for protection and increased comfort found inside a Carolina shoe's construction. |
| Internal Six Spike Forefoot Plate | A Nike brand traction plate in which the spike mounts are imbedded in the outsole to reduce the risk of getting stuck on wet ground. |
| Internal Support System | New Balance construction in the internal upper of the shoe that stabilizes the midfoot for support. |
| Jellies | Shoes constructed entirely out of PVC. |
| Kiltie | A very decorative fringed tongue that hangs over the top of a shoe. |
| Kitten Heel | A kitten heel is a women's shoe with a stiletto heel that usually measures between one and a half to two inches tall. |
