Sandals – a lighter weight and open constructed piece of footwear suitable for light hiking and decent weather conditions
Scree Collars – an inset padding in the ankle collar of hiking boots intended to protect your Achilles Tendon from the increased friction of high impact
Sleeping Bags – an insulating zip-up bag for sleeping outdoors
Sleeping Pads – a piece of slim, light weight padding intended to add an extra layer of cushioning underneath the “Sleeping Bag”
Southern Cross (Crux) -- a cruciform constellation (depicted on the Australian flag) which can be used to navigate toward the south, not to be confused with the False Cross, which would set a hiker on the wrong course. The Southern Cross has five stars and is shaped like a kite, while the False Cross contains four stars and is diamond shaped
Splash Cover – A water-resistant shielding that can keep the contents of a hiker’s backpack becoming wet
Supination – Also called “Under Pronation”; the inclination to rotate the foot toward the outside during the gait cycle, like “Pronation” this can cause damage to the feet, much exacerbated by increased walking and the weight of a heavy pack.
