Global Positioning System (GPS) – a navigational system using satellites to determine exact location on the planet
 
Hiking or Walking Rhythm – the tempo adopted for a long hike; a good comfortable rhythm can enable a hiker to cover greater distances in shorter times without becoming over effort   
 
Hiking Socks – socks constructed from a special blend of fabrics designed to reduce friction and increase support and comfort on long walks  
 
Hip Belt – a wide strap that secures a backpack to a hiker’s hips in order to disperse the weight
 
Hydration Packs – a backpack containing a liquid storage unit attached to a drinking tube designed for hands-free water carrying  
 
Insulation Layer – a second layer of clothing worn to maintain body heat by trapping still air between the layers of clothing to decrease the heat loss in cold weather.
