Tap-in -- a ball resting near the hole and needing only a light putt to go in, often results in a “Gimme” in casual play
Target-line -- the direct path from the ball to its intended position
Tee (part of the course) – the specific area of the course where golfers hit the first shot of every hole; or the small wooden or plastic peg placed in this area for the ball to be hit from
Through line -- the invisible line marking the route a putted ball would continue on if it went past the hole
Topped -- a poorly formed shot in which the club strikes only the top of the ball, resulting in a lower flight and often only bouncing or rolling
Up and down (or up and in) – taking two strokes to get the ball onto the green from somewhere else and into the hole, regardless of the actual total stroke count, usually a chip or bunker shot followed by a putt.
Vardon grip – a popular grip named after Harry Vardon, in which (for a right-handed golfer) the right pinkie finger rests on top of the left index finger.
