Gimme -- a shot (usually a tap in put) that opponents agree is sure enough to be counted without being hit, common in casual play but not allowed under the official rules of stroke play, but a player can officially concede any shot, hole, or game and will often concede a short putt to his or her opponent

Goldie Bounce -- when the ball bounces off of a tree in the rough and lands on the fairway

Green or Putting Green -- the shortly trimmed grass surrounding the hole, where the “Putter” is used

Green Reading – the ability to judge the “Break” and “Pace” required to sink a putt

Greensomes – a variation on “Foursomes” where every player tees off, but each of the teams select the best of the two drives and alternate shots with that ball

Green in Regulation (GIR) -- a statistic tracked by the “PGA Tour”; a player is credited with a GIR if a shot lands touching the green with two strokes less than par

Grounding the club – touching the bottom of the club to the ground behind the ball at address; the rules forbid grounding the club in a bunker (checking the depth) or any other marked hazard and punished by a two stroke penalty

Ground Under Repair (GUR) – A portion of the golf course that is being fixed or improved; if a ball lands in a marked GUR area, a “Free Drop” is permitted.
