Dance Floor – another name for the green
Dead -- a shot that lands in an unfavorable position that seems to have no positive outcome
Divot -- a piece of grass dislodged by a swinging club, sometimes mistaken for a “Pitch Mark”; see “Chunk”
Dormie -- the status a player achieves when he or she is leading by as many holes as there are holes left in the match, so that the opponent is forced to win all remaining holes to save the match; for example five holes ahead with 5 holes remaining is called “Dormie Five”
Double Bogey – finishing a hole at two strokes above par, one stroke worse than a “Bogey”
Double Cross -- a shot where a player accidentally hits a “Hook” when intending for a “Slice” or vice-versa
Double Eagle – See “Albatross”
Dogballs -- hitting eight strokes on any single hole, named for what the number “8” looks like on its side,
Draw -- a shot, when hit by a right-handed golfer, bends leftward, becomes a “Hook” if too angled
Drive -- a tee shot of great length, usually done with a driver (a type of golf club)
Duck Hook -- a hook shot that breaks immediately left instead of moving from right to left, also called a “Snap Hook” or “Pull Hook”.
