Outboard -- beyond the sides of the “Hull,” the opposite of “Inboard”; or a removable motor attached to the ship’s stern  

Overboard -- over the sides of a vessel, and usually into the water
 
Pier -- a platform extending from the shore out into the water, used for loading and unloading cargo

Pile -- A sturdy pole -- usually wood, metal, or concrete -- driven into the bottom, used to construct “Piling”

Piling -- a supportive or protective structure consisting of “Piles”

Piloting -- determining the course of a craft by means of various navigational aids

Planing -- to travel across the surface of the water rather than through it

Planing Hull -- a boat designed to move smoothly across the top of the water

Port -- When facing the bow, the left hand side of the ship, also a harbor, the opposite of “Starboard”

Privileged Vessel -- See “Stand-on”
 
Quarter -- the sides of the hull toward the rear of the ship, approximately from the “Aft”-most “Mast” to the “Stern”

Quartering Sea -- water striking the “Quarter” of the ship
