Foul Shot

The foul shot is awarded to a player who is fouled while attempting to get off a shot, or when the opposing team is in penalty. The player must shoot the shot from behind the foul line, and cannot step on or over the line until the ball hit’s the rim. A basket made during a foul shot is only worth one point.

If the player makes the shot on which the foul was committed then they are awarded the basket plus one foul shot, an and one situation. On a three point shot, if the basket is made and the foul committed, the three points are awarded along with a foul shot, resulting in a potential four point play.

Practice is the key to foul shooting success. A good foul shooting percentage is a key statistic for a player. Practicing until the foul shot becomes almost automatic will improve a player’s overall game, and scoring potential.
