Defensive Rebound

A defensive rebound occurs when a defender recovers the missed shot by the offense. The possession of the ball changes and that player’s team then becomes offense. Positioning, anticipation, and height (or jumping ability) are all essential to good defensive rebounding.

Proper positioning, between the offensive player and the basket, is important for defensive rebound success. The center and forwards are the most common positions for defensive rebounds, although any player may find himself in a position to rebound the ball.
