Boosters

Boosters are supporters of an athletic program. At the high school level they are usually parents of the athletes, which results in a constant turn-over. At the college level the boosters are usually former athletes and alumni, leading to a more consistent group.

The boosters usually help raise funds for the program and support the athletes with meals and rallies. Most organizations have rules that help govern and direct the boosters. At the collegiate level you can often pick out the teams boosters by the extravagant display of school colors and mascots in the stands.

The boosters, as the name implies, boost the program. They provide moral, and often financial, support for the programs. Some schools separate their boosters and supporters into separate categories, with the boosters taking on more fan oriented roles. Booster programs allow many people to become involved in the success of a team.
