Blind Pass

A blind pass is a pass from the ball handler to a player he or she cannot see. The ball is passed to a location where the teammate should be located in the current situation. This is a dangerous pass and can easily result in a turnover.

A blind pass may be executed by looking away from the receiving player, by passing behind the back, or even throwing over opposing defenders. Teammates who have been playing together a long time can anticipate where a player should be and make a quick blind pass.

Practice on timing, anticipation, and body language recognition will help a team become more successful with blind passes. If a player knows that on a particular play another player will be at the top of the key and, with a high degree of certainty, the defense should be shifting down low, and then a blind pass to the top of the key may be an effective play.
