Baseline

The baseline is the out of bounds line behind the basket which designates the end of the court. It is also referred to as the endline. There are, of course, two baselines on a court, one behind each basket. The baseline is usually designated by a painted line on the floor, of the same width as the sideline.

The ball is put back into play from behind the baseline after a basket is scored. The team scored upon gets the ball and must inbound the ball from under the opposing teams basket. The ball is also thrown in from the baseline if it goes out of bounds along this line.

Baseline is also a term used to describe a move in which a player runs down along the baseline to come free on the other side of the basket. It often involves a screen set by another player.
