FInal Four

The Final Four is the semi-final series of the NCAA Tournament featuring the regional champions from the East, West, Southeast, and Midwest regions. The tournament starts with 64 college teams and is paired down through a single elimination tournament to reach the final four teams. These four remaining teams play to determine the national champion.

The NCAA Tournament began in 1939 with the Oregon Ducks defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes to be named national champions. The other two final four teams that year were Villanova and Oklahoma. The first true Final Four occurred in 1952, when the four teams came from four different regions.

The Final Four is the culmination of March Madness, a phrase coined by Brent Musburger in 1982. The Final Four is one of the most prominent sporting events in the U.S., with more wagers being placed during this period of time than throughout the entire regular season, keeping book agents very busy.
