Lay-in – A one-handed shot taken after jumping underneath the basket in which the ball is dropped directly through the basket
Layup -- A one-handed shot taken after jumping underneath the basket in which the ball is banked off the “Backboard” into the basket
Leading the Receiver -- a pass to where a player is headed as opposed to where he or she actually is
Live
When a ball is shot or passed, or tapped in a jump ball, the ball is said to be alive. The game clock doesnt start until the ball is alive. See Live Ball.
Live Ball -- the ball is live after it’s given to the passer on a “Throw-in” or the shooter on a “Free Throw,” though the game clock doesn’t start again until the ball is “Alive”
Loose Ball -- A live ball that is in neither team’s possession
Low Post -- The unmarked region near the “Basket” but outside of the “Foul Lane”
Lower Percentage Shot -- Remarkably, the exact opposite of a “High Percentage Shot,” an attempt less likely to be successful (outside a player’s range, taken off balance, etc.)
