Jump Ball -- An official throws the ball above and between two opposing players who jump for it in hope of tapping it to one of their teammates to gain possession. Used to determine the possession at the game’s beginning (aka the “Tip Off,” all overtime periods, and occasionally used to restart play   

Jump Shot – an attempt at a “Basket,” usually from farther away, “Released” while the player is in the air, if he or she lands with possession of the ball, it’s “Traveling”
