| Backboard | Oddly enough, the board behind the basket. The regulation size for the backboard is 6 feet by 3.5 feet. |
| Backcourt | The area between the end line furthest from the offense’s goal and the “Mid Court Line”. As opposed to “Frontcourt”. |
| Ball Handler | The player in control of the ball. At the beginning of the play, this would usually be the point guard. |
| Bank Shot | A shot that falls into the basket after bouncing off the backboard. |
| Baseline | The out of bounds line behind the basket designating the end of the court. Also referred to as the “Endline” see end line. |
| Basket | The circular metal rim attached to the “Backboard.” According to regulation, the basket should be 18 inches in diameter and suspended 10 feet above the ground. For obvious reasons, a successful shot through this circle is also called a basket. |
| Beat the Defender | A player on offense (not necessarily the “Ball Handler”) gets past the opponent guarding him or her. |
| Blind Pass | When the “Ball Handler” passes to a teammate he or she can’t see based only on where the teammate should be in the current situation. |
| Blocked Shot | A shot prevented from reaching the basket by a defender deflecting its path. |
| Blocking | When a defender (without “Established Position” illegally positions his or her body to prevent an opponent’s advance. A defensive foul, as opposed to “Charging”. |
| Boosters | Supporters of a college program; usually former students of the school. |
| Boxing Out | When a player tries to position his or her body between the opponent and the goal in order to have a better position to recover a “Rebound”. |
