Baseball Terms - T to Z
Tag - The act of the defensive player touching the offensive runner with the baseball.
Team - An organized group of baseball players. Leagues are comprised of individual teams.
Third Base - The base on the field that is the 3rd in the series of bases that a runner must traverse to score a run. It is guarded by the third baseman.
Third Baseman - The defensive position located at the left side of the infield between the shortstop and the left foul line. The third baseman guards third base.
Time - The stopping of play by the umpire for a temporary period of time. The ball is considered dead during this period.
Triple - A hit by the offensive batter that advances the hitter to third base.
Triple Play - The rare act of the defensive players where three outs are recorded during one action.
Umpire - The official responsible for enforcing the rules of baseball during the game.
Utility Player - A player that can play multiple defensive positions.
Visiting Team - The team that is opposing the home team. The visiting team is awarded the first series of at bats.
Walk - See Base On Balls
Wild Pitch - A pitch thrown by the pitcher that is out of the catcher's normal range of coverage. The wild pitch is not caught by the catcher.
Wind Up Position - One of the two legal starting positions for the defensive pitcher before delivery of the baseball. Normally used when no offensive runners are on base. See Set Position.
