Dead Ball - A ball that is out of play.

Defense - The team that is not batting that is responsible for fielding the ball batted by the offensive team. There are nine defensive positions on the field: first baseman, second baseman, third baseman, short stop, pitcher, catcher, left fielder, center fielder, and right fielder.

Defensive Player - A player located in the field in one of these positions: catcher; pitcher; first baseman; second baseman; shortstop; third baseman; right fielder; center fielder; or left fielder.

Designated Hitter - An offensive player responsible for batting in place of the pitcher.

Double - The hit of an offensive player that advances the hitter to second base.

Double Header - Two games played consecutively. This usually occurs when a previous game was rained out and is reschedule for the same day as another game.

Double Play - A defensive play where two outs are scored with one continuous action of the ball.

Double Steal - An offensive play where two runners steal a base simultaneously.
