Wingtip
A wingtip shoe is a type of men's dress shoe that features an additional piece of leather that when sewn over the toe area makes a W shape. The W shape resembles the wingspan of a bird, hence the name. The term wingtip refers to the W shape on the toe area, so any shoe can be classified as such if it has the additional piece of leather on the toe area. The wingtip is added on shoes mainly for decoration, as there isn't any mechanical reason for the additional fabric. The wingtip can also extend towards the throat of a shoe and can be perforated for additional style.
Sometimes, the wingtip of a shoe will be dyed a different color from the rest of the shoe. This is not always the case, but the style can be seen on shoes such as oxfords. The wingtip style is found mostly on men's dress shoes and boots, although it can also be featured on women's shoes as well. The wingtip on a women's shoe is strictly for decoration and looks great with some clothing items.
