The main purpose of the water shoe is not to keep the foot dry but to protect the foot from sharp rocks and animals while swimming, walking or playing in the water. Water shoes are usually made out of spandex or mesh material, which allows them to dry in record time. It is very unpleasant to wear cold, wet shoes, so water shoes are well ventilated to prevent this from happening. Water shoes are constructed like athletic shoes with a rubber sole, but will usually fasten with Velcro or are slip-ons. There aren't any shoelaces on water shoes to prevent injury from the shoelace coming undone and getting caught or wrapped around something and also to simplify the process of getting the shoe on and off. Water shoes are lightweight, so they will not weigh down the wearer and fit tightly to the foot making them easier to swim in. Regular shoes when placed in water would absorb water, whereas water shoes allow water to cascade in and out so that the wearer can move freely. |
