Tennis Shoe

The main definition of a tennis shoe is an athletic shoe specifically constructed for playing the game of tennis on a variety of surfaces such as:

  • Clay
  • Hard court
  • Grass
  • Carpet

The term itself has loosely become a word synonymous with athletic shoe or gym shoe. Tennis shoes have all of the same features as an athletic shoe:

  • Rubber sole
  • Laces or Velcro
  • Cushioning devices
  • Stability devices
  • Leather or mesh upper

Tennis shoes differ in the aspect that they are made specifically for the type of surface the player intends to play on. All tennis shoes offer excellent traction and grip because tennis is a stop-and-go game and therefore, players need to be able to stop quickly without sliding. Tennis shoes also offer a lot of ankle support to stabilize and reduce risk of injury during the constant stop-and-go movement.
