Suede

Suede is a type of leather material with a napped appearance that is found on shoes, clothing, purses, furniture and other items. It is made from the underside of primarily lamb hide, although deer, goat and pig are also commonly used. Suede is naturally less durable than regular leather, yet it is softer, thinner and more pliable, making it a perfect material in the manufacturing of shoes. Suede shoes are typically worn in the winter and fall seasons due to their coloring and cozy feel. They should not be worn in the rain, as it will ruin the material. Suede can be bought pre-treated with the necessary elements to make the material both waterproof and stain-proof. Suede is very porous, so it absorbs liquid easily and can become ruined.

In the shoe industry, suede is used on the upper to create a particular design or look. Suede can be found on shoes styles such as:

  • Boots
  • Flats
  • Moccasins
  • High heels
  • Athletic inspired

Suede, just like regular leather, can be dyed any color, so it is easy to find suede shoes in all types of styles and colors to fit your fashion needs.
