Sandals are typically worn in the warmer months because they feature little covering over the foot for warmth. A sandal is an open style shoe in which the sole is attached to the wearer's foot by straps or thongs that pass over the instep and can go around the ankle. A sandal can be differentiated from other shoes because it reveals most of the foot and often times the toes as well. As mentioned before, the term sandal is a very large generalization as sandals can be found in all styles and heel heights. Sandals are great for wear in warm weather because they allow the foot to breathe which lessens the likelihood of an infection like athlete's foot. Sandals can be made from a variety of materials such as leather, straw, canvas, wood, cork, woven rope, plastic or patent leather to fit the budget and taste of any individual. As in the case of many other shoe styles, the material and design of the shoe dictates whether the shoe can be classified as dressy or casual. |
