Rearfoot

The rearfoot is the back section of the foot behind the arch that absorbs the primary impact of the foot strike. The rearfoot section of the foot includes the heel, which absorbs the initial shock of impact. The rearfoot is the rearmost portion of the foot and is usually where most of the individual's weight is held. The rearfoot absorbs the initial shock during high impact activities, but also stabilizes the body when wearing high-heeled shoes. While the rearfoot is naturally cushioned, it is not as cushioned as the forefoot so it should be adequately supported within the shoe to maximize comfort.
