Pumps

The word pump is another word used to describe a style of women's dressy or casual heeled shoes. The design of a pump can feature an open or close toe and has a low to medium heel height making them more comfortable than high heel shoes for daily activities. The actual heel of a pump is thicker than the thin heel of a stiletto, making them easier and more comfortable to walk in.

High-heeled shoes can cause many physical aches in the joints and injury if one is not careful. Pumps have a lower heel so not only can they prevent injury, but they also put less pressure on the foot and back. The foot is held at a more natural angle in a pump making them easier to walk in and stand in all day.

Pumps are usually step-in shoes that are low cut in the front to reveal most of the foot. For this reason, pumps can be worn with bare feet in the warmer months or with tights in the colder months. They can be worn with many different clothing items as any other women's dress shoe, but are more comfortable for walking, working and other daily activities.
