Piping

The term piping refers to the decorative piece of leather placed around the seam of a shoe. Piping can be found on any shoe and can be the same color as the rest of the upper or a different one for the purpose of style. The leather used for piping can be a source of additional style or to simply disguise the seam of a shoe. Piping is usually found on the upper of a shoe and does not add any specific function to the shoe itself. Piping is typically found on casual or dressy styled shoes such as women's heels and men's casual sneakers.
