Midsole
A midsole is the foam layer of the shoe located between the upper and outsole. The midsole is where the primary cushioning and stability takes place and it typically cannot be seen from the outside of the shoe. The midsole is usually made of compression molded ethylene vinyl acetate, which can differ in densities to accommodate the wearers' needs. The Nike brand uses the Air Max midsole, in which highly pressurized gas is fit into polyurethane bubbles to provide cushioning. Some midsoles are very soft, such as the midsole of running shoes, while others are firmer as in the shoes used for walking.
