Midfoot

The term midfoot can refer to one of two things in the footwear industry. It can either refer to the area of the shoe around the arch where plastic supports are built in for added stability or the middle part of the foot, which is made up of many small bones. The midfoot is very fragile and therefore prone to injury, so many athletic shoes include midfoot shanks for added stability while engaged in high impact activities.
