You're currently on:Lining - LiningsThe lining of a shoe refers to the interior material of a shoe, which surrounds the foot. The lining can be made from a variety of materials and is usually the underside of the material used on the upper of the shoe. The lining of the shoe does not have any specific purpose but it does help to insulate the foot, making it more comfortable. The type of lining the manufacturer chooses to use inside a shoe will depend on:
The lining used inside of a boot will greatly differ from the lining used in a high heel shoe because the latter is not concerned about keeping the foot isolated from the elements. The lining of a boot would obviously be thicker and contain other necessary elements such as being waterproof and insulated for warmth. The lining in a high heel shoe would probably be made of leather especially if the upper is leather. The lining in an athletic shoe would be smoother to the touch and offer more cushioning because of the constant anticipated movement of the foot inside the shoe. The lining could be made of cotton to naturally absorb moisture or even waterproof. Shoes such as flip-flops and other types of sandals will not have a lining at all because the foot is totally or partially exposed to the air. Shoes made for cold weather such as some styles of clogs and boots might have a synthetic fur lining for warmth and cushion. |
