Hiking Boots
Hiking boots are boots made specifically for hiking through mountains and trails. As in any sport, the shoes you wear are very important because they allow you to move (or inhibit you from moving) faster and safer. Hiking boots are no exception. Hiking boots protect the feet from the elements, rocks, animals and other wilderness hazards that can arise. Hiking boots usually extend to ankle length and are made of a heavy tread rubber sole, a sometimes waterproof upper and good cushioning. Hiking boots are a general term as there are three types of boots specifically made different terrain:
- Trail hiking
- Trail shoes
- Mountaineering boots
Trail hiking boots are for steeper inclines and muddy terrains. They are sturdier, waterproof and provide extra stability and ankle protection. Trail shoes are for more even terrains, in a dry climate. Trail shoes might not be as heavy because they are more suited for a one or two day hike. Mountaineering boots are strictly for mountain climbing, meaning they are extremely strong, durable and have stiff soles for ankle support.
