Flip-flops

Flip-flops or thongs are rubber sandals held onto the foot by a y-shaped strap that fits between the big and second toe then around both sides of the foot. Flip-flops are usually flat, casual, backless shoes, and are typically worn in the warmer months. They are inexpensive, due to the simple colored rubber material and are surprisingly durable. Flip-flops can be worn with:

  • Casual dresses
  • Jeans
  • Shorts
  • Stretch pants
  • Swimsuits

The term "flip-flop" is inspired by the slapping sound that the sole of the shoe makes against your foot each time you take a step. Flip-flops are suitable for the beach, as well as taking walks, running errands or any other activity in which you can be casual and comfortable. Flip-flops come in a wide array of colors, as well as featuring graphic prints.

More expensive flip-flops offer more support and a leather thong, which is less likely to irritate the foot. Flip-flops are not the only type of sandal with a thong strap. There are many other styles of sandals that are dressier and made of other materials and more elaborate designs.

Flip-flops are extremely casual, cheap and great for the warmer months. They are an inexpensive way to look casual yet pulled together. As it is with any shoe type, some flip-flops are made better than others and offer different elements such as platform sole or a roped thong strap. Flip-flops can also have designs on the sole or added elements like flowers or bows, which can make them bright, colorful and fun.
