Elastane

Elastane or spandex is a synthetic fiber made from polyurethane that is stronger and more durable than rubber. Elastane is known for its elasticity and was invented in 1959 by a chemist named Joseph Shivers. As related to the footwear industry, elastane can be used on a variety of different styles due to the natural ability of the fabric to adjust to the foot. Elastane is commonly used on the uppers of casual shoes, water shoes and thong sandals. The fabric will easily stretch to accommodate the size and shape of an individual's foot.
