Collar

A collar is typically a padded strip of material attached to the opening or top line of a shoe for comfort in the Achilles tendon area. The shoe collar can also simply refer to the stitching on the top line of the shoe and does not have to be padded at all. The collar can be specifically for decoration or to support the back of the ankle. If the heel portion of the shoe hugs the heel tightly, then the collar will provide relief from the blistering of the back of the ankle. Some men's dress shoes will have a padded collar for this exact reason.
