The term cap-toe refers to a type of decoration found on men's dress shoes. A cap-toe is an extra piece of leather that when attached to the toe of the shoe provides a very clean look to the shoe. The cap-toe style is very popular, perhaps due to its sleekness and simplicity. The cap-toe has nothing to do with how the shoe closes; it simply affects the way the toe of a shoe looks.

Some men's dress shoes will use different colored leather for the cap-toe while other styles will keep the look uniform. The cap-toe itself can also have piping or holes cut into the leather for decoration. The cap-toe is normally sewn on the toe of the shoe and provides nothing more than decoration. Choosing a shoe with or without a cap-toe is a personal choice, although it looks great when peeking out from underneath dress pants.
