Aglet - Aglets

An aglet is a plastic sheath found on the tips of both ends of a shoelace. The aglet encloses the fibers of the shoelace, making it possible to thread the shoelace into the eyelets located on either side of the shoe without fraying the shoelace. Once the shoelace has been tied, the aglets help to make the shoe look neat because they contain the loose fibers of the laces. The aglet does not come off easily unless it is due to highly aggressive wear and tear, in which case the shoelaces should be thrown away.

The true significance of the aglet will not be understood until you are driving yourself crazy trying to get the frayed end of the shoelace into each eyelet. Some shoe brands choose to make the aglet a part of the shoe design by using colored plastic that coordinates with the colors in the shoe, though most brands use clear aglets.

Shoelaces themselves are important because they help to secure the foot within the shoe. Most sneakers and athletic shoes require laces so that the shoe will not slip off of the wears foot while running or walking. The aglets help people to laces their shoes faster and more effectively. Aglets are used on all brands that manufacture athletic as well as casual shoes such as:
