After Hour Footwear

When applied to footwear, the term “after hour” denotes the period after a main event in which more casual attire is appropriate. After hour footwear can be worn with a robe, pajamas or any other casual wear a person decides to wear within their home. The footwear is meant to keep the feet warm, especially in homes with hardwood or tiled floors.  After hour footwear is made for everyone and should be worn primarily in or around the house to reduce the likelihood of tracking dirt into one’s home. After hour footwear can be made with an open toe, closed toe, open heel or enclosed heel and can be made in a variety of styles such as:

  • Mules
  • Thongs
  • Moccasins
  • Booties
  • Clogs

This footwear can be made with suede, leather, plastic, rubber or any other material typically used to make shoes. After hour footwear is important because they are typically very comfortable and provide additional comfort such as fur or padded openings. The shoes are meant to be as comfortable as possible so that you will want to wear them when you get home.
After hour footwear should not be confused with bedroom slippers, although the term can be included under the umbrella. After hour shoes can also be used as “kick around” shoes or shoes that you would slip on to run errands. They are easy to put on and take off and look best with comfortable clothing such as jeans and sweat pants. After hour footwear does not have to be worn with socks and are meant to be the casual go-to shoe. They are not meant for dressy occasions and should be worn for comfort above anything else.
