The term dual-density polyurethane/phylon is Nike's midsole that offers dual densities for comfort and flexibility. The polyurethane offers a harder substance for stability while the phylon is softer for comfort and cushioning. The two densities combined allow the foot to be cushioned and supported in the necessary places. The dual density midsole is located between the upper and the midsole and offers the main support and cushion for the foot. Within the Nike brand, the dual density midsole is very popular in shoes created for high impact activities such as running.
