Reaching Beyond the Beaten Trails
Team SHOEBACCA represents more than
just the core group of riders who dare to overcome the hills and trails they
take on with their bikes. Team SHOEBACCA reaches out into their community
and beyond to help those who need it. For every rider on the course, there
are many people riding in tandem spirit, cheering them on and giving the
riders that final bit of motivation it takes to go the extra mile. Team
SHOEBACCA is carrying a lot of angels on their backs with the event they are
currently preparing for, the Bike MS Bay to Bay Tour 2009!
The core group now involved with Team SHOEBACCA has been participating in this great cause for nine years now. It all began when one of the riders found out that his two sisters were both diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. His is a family of fighters; the girls weren't going to accept this, and in their research, discovered the annual bike tour. They approached their brother to "ride for the cure," and as quickly as it was said, these passionate riders got involved with the tour. When Team SHOEBACCA came about in 2008, it was only natural that the team make the seamless transition to riding for the cure; after all, the courage that those battling MS is a true inspiration to these talented athletes, and to be able to embrace the comraderie of Team SHOEBACCA and raise money to combat MS was a true blessing.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society was established to help each person suffering with MS to address the challenges of living with this disease. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with more than twice as many women as men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S., and 2.5 million worldwide. Last year alone, through their home office and 50 state network of chapters, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society devoted over $136 million to programs that enhanced more than one million lives. The Society also invested over $50 million to support 440 research projects around the world. Now in its 27th year, the Bike MS Bay to Bay Tour is one of Southern California's premier biking events!
Helping Team SHOEBACCA reach their goal of support for the tour doesn't mean you have to mount up on your bike and trek through the beautiful Orange and San Diego County coastline (though it sure sounds nice, doesn't it?). You can donate money to a Team SHOEBACCA rider simply by visiting the team page at www.biketofinishms.com/teamshoebacca.
Click on any rider on the team to donate money to this wonderful cause. Team SHOEBACCA is working hard to meet their fundraising goal, and even small donations add up. The most important thing to remember is that everything donated goes to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Be that angel on a rider’s shoulder as they pedal to the finish line! Team SHOEBACCA appreciates your support, and if you live in the area and want to come cheer for the team as they ride for a cure, make sure you scream some SHOEBACCA love their direction!
