If you skate, you probably own at least one pair of DC shoes. Most of you probably live in yours. If you think a good day should involve four hours of the X-Games and at least one minor abrasion, chances are you have wrecked your fair share of extreme sports-style DC kicks.

This American-based footwear company has been making top-notch skateboarding shoes since 1993. Founded in Vista, California by Ken Block and Damon Way, DC Shoes was originally called Eightball, and solely made t-shirts for skate shops. After trademark disputes, Eightball was renamed Droors Clothing, sporting a new line of clothing in which they created ads in satire of famous advertisements for companies like Calvin Klein and even famous rapper's CD artwork. Droors saw famous icons of the rap and hip-hop industry, like Cypress Hill and the Beastie Boys. Droors Clothing Footwear was simplified to DC, and after the sale of Droors, DC stood alone as DC Shoes. In March 2004, DC Shoes was acquired by Quiksilver.

DC Shoes has expanded their line of skate shoes to include snowboarding boots, shirts, jeans, hats, and jackets. The company manufactures footwear for all types of extreme sports, including skateboarding, snowboarding, BMX, motocross, rally car racing, and surfing, for men, women, and kids.

DC recently sponsored one of the world's first skate plazas, which was built in Kettering, Ohio. The skate plaza, a dream of Rob Dyrdek and Collin McKay, is billed as one of the first skate parks for street skateboarders. Shaun White was one of the first people in the entire world to skate it. DC founder Ken Block is a rally car driver competing in Rally America, a US rally racing championship, and the New Zealand Rally Championship. DC is a sponsor of both him and his teammate, driver Travis Pastrana, a champion motocross rider. Pastrana was the 2006 and 2007 overall Rally America championship winner. Both Pastrana and Block compete as part of the Subaru Rally Team USA and drive Subaru Impreza WRX STi rally cars. DC has recently released a driving shoe because of their involvement in rally.

In 2007, DC announced they would be expanding into the hardgoods market with the launch of DC snowboards. As their line continues to expand, so does their versatility, and you can expect this extreme sports icon to rock hard for years to come!
