From the minds of four creative people, the 9 Grand company got its start. The name is thanks to the initial monetary investment in the company, which was nine thousand dollars. The label was established to represent fresh style and street culture influence.

The mentality and drive of the company changed when in 2003, two of the original partners passed away in a horrible car accident. Another member was severely injured, as well. This tragedy refocused the core group, and 9 Grand was determined to not let the original partners' memory fade away. With the addition of two new creative minds, 9 Grand found a new vigor and got back on track in pursuance of the original ideals.
