K-Swiss Appian Shoe Description
It should be obvious, but when they say the K Swiss Appian men's athletic inspired shoes feature a herringbone tread pattern, that doesn't mean they have fish skeletons attached to the outsoles. As anyone with a shoe design background (or the knowledge of what words mean) could tell you that fish carcasses make for bad footwear. Even if they weren't brittle and slippery; which they are, the smell alone should be reason enough to abandon the whole "actual herringbone tread" idea.
Fortunately, K-Swiss is far too savvy to screw up a sweet shoe like the Appian men's athletic inspired shoes with a bunch of herring skeletons. The herringbone tread featured here is the better, non-fishy kind -- a pattern (in rubber, mind you) of vertical lines adjoining in a V-shape for great, long-lasting traction. Supposedly, that pattern which is used in everything from fabric to masonry got its name because it resembles the shape of an actual herring's skeleton, but to find out for sure you should probably take an aquatic anatomy class, or better yet, go talk to a fisherman who catches herrings. We certainly can't tell you, though. This is a shoe website, you know, not some Scandinavian wharf.
