Medial Post

The medial post is a firm block of polyurethane or high-density compression-molded EVA (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate; a soft, flexible, and lightweight cushioning compound) on the arch side of the midsole, which prevents the collapse of the arch and the inward rotation of the heel, which can frequently generate the lateral knee movement more commonly known as pronation.

The Medicare/HCPCS billing code A5500 applies to quality, therapeutic depth shoes for diabetics. To qualify, shoes must be made from leather or other suitable material of equal quality, and have some form of closure and full-length, heel-to-toe fillers or insoles that, when removed, provide a minimum of 3/16'' of additional depth used to accommodate custom-molded or customized inserts.
