Skateboarding Terms - D-E-F-G
Deck - the board part of the skateboard
Dude - A fellow skater, typically male though not always. See also
"Bro" and "Homie."
Fakie - A reversal of the skater’s usual stance, with his or her usual back
foot in the lead position and vice versa. Not much of a trick in itself, but
a fakie modifier makes a trick a bit more impressive, often confused with
"Switch Stance" but much less natural looking.
Frontside - A rotation of the board in a direction putting the skater’s
front toward the turn’s arc. Not a trick, but a modifier of a trick,
"Frontside 180" for example; the opposite of "Backside."
Full Pipe - A full pipe is a piece of huge cement piping with a large
diameter, often of ten feet or more. Skaters start at the bottom and
gradually start getting higher and higher up the sides as they push back and
forth. Pipe-riding is not so common anymore. A few notable full pipes are
Toxic Land and Glory Hole.
Gnarly - A term meaning bad, horrible, or sketchy.
Goofy (stance)-To stand on skateboard facing left and push with left foot.
Grind - sliding on the edge of an object, often a rail, on a skateboard’s
trucks instead of the wheels or deck.
Grindage- Good food, like pizza or tacos. Yum.
